Verse Study on Colossians 1:18! Pt 4 of 7.

Jesus is the BEGINNING of the Church of the FIRSTBORN!

***What Does Colossians 1:18 TRULY mean?

Here is Colossians 1:18 from the KJV. “And He is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.”

Does Colossians 1:15-23 teach that the Son of God PRE-EXISTED in the eternity past?

Does Colossians 1:15-23 teach PRE-HUMAN EXISTENCE of the Son of God BEFORE his Virgin BIRTH?

Was Jesus born in the eternity past?

Was Jesus created in the eternity past?

Did the Son of God have a BEGINNING?

WHEN did the Son of God BECOME the FIRSTBORN of every CREATURE?

Were all THINGS CREATED by the Son of God?

Does the entire universe CONSIST by Jesus?

What is Jesus the BEGINNING of in Colossians 1:18?

What does Colossians 1:15-23 TRULY mean in the LIGHT of the WHOLE word of Almighty God?

Is the HEAD a PART of the BODY?

This is part 4 of a 9 part series of Verse Studies on Colossians 1:15-23.

All 9 of these verses are tightly connected as being a part of the SAME CONTEXT.

In other words, when we read verse 18, we need to ask yourself how this verse FITS with HOW we understand the REST of the CONTEXT.

Let me explain what I mean by this. If you are a Trinitarian Christian, then your UNDERSTANDING of Colossians 1:15,16 is that Jesus is the CREATOR of ALL THINGS.

So, ask yourself HOW verse 18 FITS with the understanding that the entire universe was CREATED by Jesus in the eternity past.

Please read Colossians 1:18 with that question in your mind.

Colossians 1:18.

“And He is the HEAD of the BODY, the CHURCH: (How is Jesus being the HEAD of the CHURCH fit with the Trinitarian understanding of verse 17 as being the entire universe is held together by Jesus?) who is the beginning, (The beginning of WHAT? To me, the answer is simple, Jesus is the BEGINNING of the CHURCH of the FIRSTBORN) the FIRSTBORN from the DEAD; THAT (Or so THAT) in ALL things He might have the preeminence.”

So again, ask yourself the question, “What does Jesus being the firstborn from the DEAD so that He might have preeminence over the entire universe have to do with Jesus being the HEAD of the BODY, the CHURCH?”

Notice that I put the word THINGS in green font color.

I did that to draw you attention to the fact that the word “things” is NOT in the Greek text.

Thus, the Son of MAN, was BEGOTTEN from the DEAD for the PURPOSE of being the HEAD of the ALL who are in Jesus to be a part of the BODY of the called-out ones, he, being the FIRST to be called by God to walk in righteousness.

Let us read this verse from the LITERAL translation so you can see that the word THINGS is NOT in the Greek text.

“And He is the HEAD of the BODY, the out called, who is the BEGINNING, the before most brought forth, out of the DEAD ones, that MAYBE coming, in ALL He before most being.”

In other words, Jesus is the FIRSTBORN of every creature out of the DEAD ones THAT, or so that the DEAD ones might be coming to be new creatures, he being the FIRST NEW creature.

Therefore, Jesus being the BEGINNING of the CREATION of God in Revelation 3:14 is speaking of God’s NEW CREATION of NEW CREATURES created in RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Let us go ahead and read that verse so that you can see that Jesus is called the FAITHFUL and TRUE WITNESS in the CONTEXT of that verse of Scripture.

So again, ask yourself the question, Why and Who, would the Son of God be a FAITHFUL and TRUTHFUL WITNESS to in the eternity past BEFORE he supposedly BEGAN the creation of the entire universe?

Revelation 3:14.

“And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things said the Amen, the FAITHFUL and TRUE WITNESS, the BEGINNING of the creation of God;”

The question that Trinitarian Christians should be asking is “WHAT CREATION is Jesus talking about?”

Is Jesus the beginning of the creation in the eternity past?

Is Jesus the beginning of the recreation of the earth after it BECAME void?

Is Jesus talking about the creation in the future, the creation of the NEW heavens and the NEW earth AFTER the Millennium called the world to come?

Is Jesus talking about God’s NEW CREATION of NEW CREATURES, where he is the FIRST one of EVERY CREATURE made in the PERFECT IMAGE of the invisible God?

How does Jesus being a FAITHFUL and TRUE WITNESS fit with any other CREATION other than the NEW CREATION of NEW CREATURES created in Jesus?

And after you understand that the REASON that Yahweh did that is to STILL His ENEMIES, Satan and the fallen angels.

Then you can understand that God made His human Son to become “a” Lord, “a” King, and “a” God, under and subject to his God and Father in order to JUDGE Satan and the fallen angels.
