Is the Entire Universe Held Together by Jesus?

***What Does Colossians 1:17 TRULY mean?

Here is Colossians 1:17 from the KJV. “And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.”

Does Colossians 1:15-23 teach that the Son of God PRE-EXISTED in the eternity past?

Does Colossians 1:15-23 teach PRE-HUMAN EXISTENCE of the Son of God BEFORE His Virgin BIRTH?

Was Jesus born in the eternity past?

Was Jesus created in the eternity past?

Did the Son of God have a BEGINNING?

WHEN did the Son of God BECOME the FIRSTBORN of every CREATURE?

Were all THINGS CREATED by the Son of God?

Does the entire universe CONSIST by Jesus?

What does Colosians 1:15-23 TRULY mean in the LIGHT of the WHOLE word of Almighty God?

What does Colossians 1:17 TRULY MEAN?

Can the translators make ERRORS in translation? Can “translations” of the Bible be BIAS toward a particular belief?

To me, the answer is yes, because the “TRANSLATION” of every verse in the Bible does not AGREE.

Please understand that just because the “translated” verses do not agree, does NOT mean that those verses in the original text CONTRADICT each other.

One example of this is Genesis 1:2 and Isaiah 45:7, the earth WAS VOID and I did NOT create the earth in VAIN.

The WAY that those verses are “translated”, they contradict each other.

For you see, Genesis 1:1,2 in the KJV makes it SEEM, as if God created the earth without form and void.

And that “INTERPRETATION” due to the WAY it is TRANSLATED, caused it to contradict Isaiah 45:7.

So, all I do is interpret the verses in the Bible so that they ALL AGREE with each other.

And if that means I need to CHANGE what I was TAUGHT to believe by my church denomination, then so be it.

With that being said, here is the way that I believe Colossians 1:17 SHOULD be translated.

This Verse Study is part THREE of a series of SEVEN Verses studies in the 9 verses in Colossians 1:15-23. I combine verses 21-23 into one Verse Study.

But for now, let us begin part 3 to learn the TRUE Sound Biblical meaning of Colossians 1:17 in the LIGHT of the WHOLE word of Almighty God.

A more correct translation of Colossians 1:17.

“And He is before ALL, and in Him THE ALL are set together.”

The Greek word translated as “before” does indeed mean PRIOR to and in front of.

And this agrees with the whole CONTEXT and also with the rest of the Bible.

Jesus is indeed the FORERUNNER who has ENTERED into glory BEFORE us, according to Hebrews 6:20.

Jesus is the FIRST human being to be made a partaker of the Divine nature of IMMORTALITY.

God made the Captain of our salvation PERFECT before us, according to Hebrews 2:10.

Let us go ahead and read that, with some more context.

Hebrews 2:5-11.

“For unto the angels has He NOT put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.

Hebrews 2:6. But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that you are mindful of him? Or the Son of MAN, that you visit Him? (This is a PROPHECY of the Son of MAN, Jesus, being visited morning by morning by the Eternal Spirit TEACHING Him the Scriptures, according to Isaiah 50:4-9.

And by age 12, the child Jesus understood the Scriptures better than the teachers in the Temple in Jerusalem)

Hebrews 2:7. You made Him a little lower than the angels; You CROWNED Him with glory and honor, and did SET Him over the works of YOUR hands: (And this prophecy was FULFILLED after the cross and resurrection)

Hebrews 2:8. You have PUT all things in subjection under His feet. (And symbolically the BODY of Christ, the church is, the FEET of Jesus.

See the Verse Study on Genesis 3:15) For in that He PUT all in subjection under Him, He left nothing that is NOT put under Him. But NOW, we see NOT YET all things PUT under Him. (This ONE verse of Scripture proves that Jesus is NOT Almighty God Himself)

Hebrews 2:9. But we see Jesus, (Or the very Apostles of Jesus understood that Jesus is the FULFILLMENT of PROPHECY) who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, CROWNED with glory and honor; that He by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

Hebrews 2:10. For it became Him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing MANY SONS unto GLORY, to MAKE the captain of their salvation PERFECT through sufferings.

Hebrews 2:11. For both He that sanctifies and they who are sanctified are all of ONE: for which cause He is not ashamed to call them BRETHREN,”

So, according to the WHOLE word of Almighty God, Jesus being the FIRSTBORN of every CREATURE means that He is the FIRST of God’s NEW CREATURES of RIGHTEOUSNESS who will INHERIT the worlds to come.

Jesus is the FIRSTBORN of many BRETHREN.

And the SAME GLORY that God GAVE to Jesus, Jesus had promised to give to us so that we will be ONE with the Father EVEN as Jesus and the Father are ONE, according to John 17:20-26.

So, what about the Greek word that is TRANSLATED as CONSISTS?

Is that a CORRECT translation? Does it AGREE with the vast number of other Scriptures that CLEARLY teach us that Almighty God the Father is the God of Jesus?

To me, Trinitarian Christians have to ADD other man-made doctrines like the so-called TWO NATURES at the SAME time DURING the days of His FLESH, one Divine, and one human.

I agree that Jesus HAD two natures, but NOT at the SAME time.

The FIRST nature of Jesus was FLESH. And AFTER his God highly exalted the Son of MAN, the HUMAN Son of God BECAME Deity and was GIVEN the Divine NATURE of IMMORTALITY.

So, on that ONE point of Jesus being a God UNDER His God and Father, the Jehovah’s Witnesses are correct.

However, their teaching on the PRE-HUMAN EXISTENCE is NOT according to what the Bible ITSELF teaches.

Let us take a look at the OTHER meanings of the Greek word that is translated as “ by Him all THINGS consists” in the KJV, and as “by means of him all OTHER THINGS EXIST.”

Please know and understand that the words “THINGS” in the KJV, and OTHER THINGS” in the NWT, are NOT in the Greek text.

Plus, the LITERAL translation says THE ALL in him has STOOD together.

So, to me, Colossians 1:17 is saying that THE ALL who are in Jesus have been APPROVED by God. We are COMPLETE in Jesus for our RIGHTEOUSNESS.

God created us in Jesus to do GOOD WORKS.

Here is how the concordance in E-Sword defines the Greek word that is translated as CONSISTS in the KJV and as EXISTS in the NWT.

sunistaō sunistanō sunistēmi

soon-is-tah'-o, soon-is-tah'-an'-o, soon-is-tah'-ay-mee

From G4862 and G2476 (including its collateral forms); to set together, that is, (by implication) to introduce (favorably), or (figuratively) to exhibit; intransitively to stand near, or (figuratively) to constitute: - approve, commend, consist, make, stand (with).

Total KJV occurrences: 16.

In Jesus we are set together in heavenly places.

In Jesus we are RECONCILED to God to be found favorably.

In Jesus we are constituted or made a part of the whole BODY of Jesus Christ, the church or called out ones.

In Jesus we are commended, or found acceptable and pleasing to God.

In Jesus we all consist or we fit together to stand together as one BODY of believers.

Now, another meaning of consists does mean to exist or to subsist, as in, hold together.

But that meaning, WITHOUT the word THINGS ADDED to the text, does not prove that by Jesus the entire universe is held together.

That is READING INTO the Scriptures a preconceived belief.

It is true that we would NOT EXIST without Jesus as a NEW CREATURE of righteousness.
