God Was IN Jesus, Reconciling the World Unto Himself!
***What Does Colossians 1:20 TRULY mean?
Here is Colossians 1:20 from the KJV. “And, having made peace through the blood of His cross, by Him to reconcile all things unto Himself; by Him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.”
Does Colossians 1:15-23 teach that the Son of God PRE-EXISTED in the eternity past?
Does Colossians 1:15-23 teach PRE-HUMAN EXISTENCE of the Son of God BEFORE His Virgin BIRTH?
Was Jesus born in the eternity past?
Was Jesus created in the eternity past?
Did the Son of God have a BEGINNING?
WHEN did the Son of God BECOME the FIRSTBORN of every CREATURE?
Were all THINGS CREATED by the Son of God?
Does the entire universe CONSIST by Jesus?
What is Jesus the BEGINNING of in Colossians 1:18?
Did something PLEASE the Father in the eternity past?
Or did Jesus, being a FAITHFUL and TRUTHFUL WITNESS PLEASE the Father?
WHAT PLEASED the Father THAT all FULNESS SHOULD dwell in Him?
Is Colossians 1:20 a BIASED Translation?
What does Colosians 1:15-23 TRULY mean in the LIGHT of the WHOLE word of Almighty God?

Is Colossians 1:20 an INCORRECT BIAS Translation?
This is part 6 of a 7-part series of Verse Studies on Colossians 1:15-23.

Let us begin this Verse Study by reading Colossians 1:20 out of its CONTEXT first.
The reason that I do this is to show my readers HOW some Christians take verses OUT of their context and READ INTO that verse of Scripture their PRECONCEIVED belief.
But on this verse, it is the WAY in which the Greek word “ho”, Strong’s # 3588, is TRANSLATED as the word THINGS.
I will explain what I mean after we read Colossians 1:20. I will place the words in question in green font color.
Colossians 1:20.
“And, having made peace through the blood of His cross, by Him to RECONCILE all things unto Himself; by Him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.”
Now, the DIRECT CONTEXT in this verse itself is about God RECONCILING.
So, ask yourself the question, is God reconciling THINGS that are in heaven by the SHED BLOOD of Jesus on the cross?
I mean WHO does the Bible ITSELF say that Jesus suffered and died on the cross FOR?
Was it THINGS in HEAVEN? No! Jesus died on the cross for THE ALL who BELIEVE in Jesus as the atonement for their sins.
In other words, Jesus died for the sins of the WHOLE world so that WHOSOEVER BELIEVES on the NAME of the only BEGOTTEN Son should not perish, but have eternal life, according to 1 John 2:2 and John 3:16-18.
So then, WHY would the translators of the King James Version of the Bible translated the Greek word “ho”, Strong’s #3588, as THINGS, when the primary meaning is the DEFINITE article THE?
Let us read Colossians 1:20 from a LITERAL translation that CORRECTLY translates the Strong’s #3588 as to RECONCILE THE ALL, and as THE in heaven and THE on the earth.
LITERAL translation of Colossians 1:20.
“And through Him to RECONCILE THE ALL INTO Him making peace through the blood of the cross of Him through Him, whether THE in the earth or whether THE in the heavens.”
Now, to me, by the translators ADDING the word THINGS two times in Colossians 1:16, two times in Colossians 1:17, one time in Colossians 1:18, and three times in Colossians 1:20, is MISLEADING Christians to WRONGLY believe that Jesus is the CREATOR of all THINGS.
But at least they were HONEST enough to place the word things in ITALICS to show the readers that it was ADDED and NOT in the Greek text.
So, in my own opinion, the King James Version is BIASED toward the doctrine of the Trinity.

But in DEFENSE of the KJV, I still PREFER it over most every other translation.
And the short answer for WHY is that most verses can be interpreted in different ways.
Whereas, in some translations, you can only see ONE meaning in some verses.
Please read the following study for examples of what I mean.
G-15. WHY I Prefer the King James Version!
With that being said, let us look at how the concordance in E-Sword defines the Greek word “pas” to see if it means all THINGS.

Including all the forms of declension; apparently a primary word; all, any, every, the whole: - all (manner of, means) alway (-s), any (one), X daily, + ever, every (one, way), as many as, + no (-thing), X thoroughly, whatsoever, whole, whosoever.
Total KJV occurrences: 1238.
Did you see the word THINGS in the meaning of the Greek word “pas”.
I did NOT see anything in the CONTEXT of Colossians 1:15-23 that warrants the ADDING of the word “THINGS” in this passage of Scripture.
And, at the very least, the translators and or the publishers should have placed the word things in ITALICS to let the reader know and understand that the word things is NOT in the Greek text.
Also, the translators of the KJV did NOT translate the Greek word “ho” as the definite article “THE”, when it is indeed in the Greek text.
Let me place some phrases showing the KJV, the NWT of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, and the LITERAL translations so you can see that the LITERAL translation is CORRECT and both the KJV and the NWT are MISLEADING and borderline deliberate DECEPTIONS in my own opinion.
Let us compare one verse and one phrase at a time between these three different translations.
Colossians 1:16.
Here is the first phrase in the KJV.
“For by Him were ALL things created…”
Here is the first phrase in the NWT.
“because by means of Him ALL other things were created...”
Here is the first phrase in the LITERAL.
“That in Him is CREATED THE ALL...”
As you can clearly see, the KJV and NWT “translation” makes it sound as if Jesus himself is the CREATOR of everything that exists.
And that MISLEADS some Christians to become Trinitarian Christians because they know full well that Almighty God is the CREATOR.
Thus, they WRONGLY conclude that Jesus MUST be Almighty God HIMSELF in the flesh.
But when you read the LITERAL translation, you can clearly see that what is created is CREATED in Jesus Christ.
And when you see the words “THE ALL”, then you have to ask yourself, what or WHO is THE ALL that is CREATED in Jesus.
Now, for me, as soon as I read the literal translation the very first time some 40 years ago, the Holy Spirit brought to my remembrance Ephesians 2:10.
And that verse CLEARLY teaches us that Almighty God the Father CREATE us in Jesus when we BELIEVED the Gospel to be BORN-AGAIN as God’s NEW CREATION of NEW CREATURES created in RIGHTEOUSNESS, according to Ephesians 4:24, 2 Corinthians 5:17-21, and Galatians 6:15.
Colossians 1:17 from the KJV.
“And He is before ALL things, and by Him all things consist.”
Colossians 1:17 from the NWT.
“Also, He is before ALL other things, and by means of Him ALL other things were made to exist,”
Colossians 1:17 from the LITERAL.
“And He is before ALL, and in Him THE ALL has stood together.”
A more correct translation to me is SET TOGETHER.
For you see, in Jesus, we are set together in heavenly places.
The words “THE ALL” is referring to the all who BELIEVE on the name of Jesus to be saved.
“And He is before ALL, and in Him THE ALL are set together.”
Colossians 1:18 from the KJV.
“And He is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in ALL things he might have the preeminence.”
Colossians 1:18 from the NWT.
“and He is the head of the body, the congregation. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He might become the one who is first in ALL things;”
Colossians 1:18 from the LITERAL.
“And He is the head of the body the out called who is beginning, firstborn out of the dead ones that may be coming in ALL he being first”
And here is Colossians 1:20 again, so you can compare all three translations together.
Colossians 1:20 from the KJV.
“ And, having made peace through the blood of His cross, by Him to reconcile ALL things unto Himself; by Him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.”
Colossians 1:20 from the NWT.
“and through Him to reconcile to Himself ALL other things by making peace through the blood He shed on the torture stake, whether the things on the earth or the things in the heavens.”
Colossians 1:20 from the LITERAL.
“And through Him to RECONCILE THE ALL INTO Him making peace through the blood of the cross of Him through Him whether THE on the earth or THE in the heavens.”
To me, the LITERAL translation does NOT MISLEAD Christians to WRONGLY believe that Jesus is the creator of ALL THINGS.
God is reconciling THE ALL who BELIEVE in Jesus through the shed blood.
And we are reconciled INTO God because of Jesus. But when we are reconciled, we are set INTO the BODY, the church.
Thus, every BELIEVER in Jesus as their Lord and Savior are a PART of the BODY, the church of the FIRSTBORN out of the dead ones, the FIRSTBORN among many BRETHREN, the FIRST human made in the perfect IMAGE of God to become the FIRST of the FIRSTFRUIT unto God.
