Firstborn of God

I combined verses 21-23 together as being the CONTEXT immediately following the passage of Scripture that is used by some Christians to TRY to prove that Jesus is the CREATOR of the entire universe.

In other words, there are no less than three groups of Christians that use Colossians 1:15-17 to TRY to prove a PRE-HUMAN existence of the Son of God and that God created the entire universe by or by the means of His Son in the eternity past.

And those three church denominations are the Oneness Pentecostal Christians, Trinitarian Christians, and the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

To me, the entire CONTEXT of the whole or chapter 1 is clearly teaching us about the ALL who BELIEVE in Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

But in this study, I will only focus on Colossians 1:21-23.

Colossians 1:21-23.

“And you, that were for some time alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now has He RECONCILED.

Colossians 1:22. In the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in His sight:

Colossian 1:23. If you continue in the FAITH grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which you have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;”

So then, what is the FAITH of the Apostles? Did Paul teach that Jesus created the universe in the eternity past?

Did God create all things by Jesus? Or did God create THE ALL who BELIEVE in Jesus?

According to Hebrews 9:14, Jesus offered Himself to God without spot or blemish THROUGH the Eternal Spirit.

Hebrews 9:14.

“How much more shall the blood of Christ, who THROUGH the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”

According to John 14:10, it was the Father who did the WORKS and who DWELT in the Son of MAN, Jesus.

John 14:10.

“Believe you not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak unto you I speak not of Myself: but the Father that DWELLS in Me, He does the works.”

And John 5:19 teaches us that the Son could do NOTHING of Himself.

John 5:19.

“Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do NOTHING of Himself, but what He sees the Father do: for what things soever He does, these also does the Son likewise.”

We also read in 2 Corinthians 5:17-21.

“Therefore if ANY man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

2 Corinthians 5:18. And ALL things are of God, WHO has reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

2 Corinthians 5:19. To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and has committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

2 Corinthians 5:20. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be you reconciled to God.

2 Corinthians 5:21. For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.”

Then you can understand that God made His human Son to become “a” Lord, “a” King, and “a” God, under and subject to his God and Father in order to JUDGE Satan and the fallen angels.
